Tauseef Ali Farooqui, a student of IIT Guwahati, was arrested after a social media post claimed that he joined terror organization ISIS.
He was a student of Biotechnology at IIT Guwahati. Touseef Ali Farooqui — a BTech student of IITG — has been arrested u/s 120(B)/121(S)/123 IPC R/w Sec 10/13 UA(P) Act. A flag of ISIS and some documents were found with him. Tauseef Ali Farooqui after joining the terrorist organization wrote an open letter on LinkedIn stating the reason for his decision.
A senior police officer who does not want to be named told ET, said: “Farooqui, hailing from Delhi was a frequent visitor to Moriyapatty Jamma Masjid in Amingaon. The cleric of the Mosque Gulzar Hussain was questioned by police. Police are searching for the mobile phone of the Farooqui”.
The head of ISIS in India Haris Farooqi was arrested along with his associates recently by the Assam police. His associate Anurag Singh alias Rehan belongs to Panipat and converted to Islam while his wife is a Bangladeshi national. Farooqi was suspected to be hiding in Bangladesh and carried out radicalisation of gullible Indian youths.
Farooqi has been instrumental in setting up modules in Jharkhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, Maharashtra and Karnataka. Farooqui, who hails from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, was wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
