Also, it was not the first assassination attempt on a former president or an incumbent one. Ronald Reagan was attacked in 1981 when he was the US president. Former Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy, who defended Reagan from a gunman, has compared the recent assassination attempt to the Reagan shooting. Talking to the local television channel 'WGN News', he said that it was a plain and simple security failure. He added that when President Regan was shot, that was also a failure.
