New Delhi, Anand Vihar, Sarai Rohilla, and Old Delhi, have witnessed a notable increase in the retrieval of lost luggage this year. Data compiled by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) reveals a significant rise in the recovery of lost baggage, amounting to Rs 1.2 crore, until June across more than 13 stations in Delhi. This surge contrasts with the previous year's statistics, where lost items worth over Rs 64 lakh were reclaimed within the same period.
The data highlights that the majority of the retrieved items were found at New Delhi station (Rs 30.8 lakh), followed by Anand Vihar (Rs 16 lakh), Sarai Rohilla (Rs 15.7 lakh), and Old Delhi railway stations (Rs 13.8 lakh). Comparatively, in the previous year, New Delhi saw the retrieval of lost baggage worth Rs 32 lakh, followed by Anand Vihar (Rs 8.2 lakh), Delhi Sarai Rohilla (Rs 6.2 lakh), and Old Delhi railway stations (Rs 3.6 lakh). The data also underscores that this year, lost items valued at Rs 13.2 lakh were recovered at Hazrat Nizamuddin station, with other stations collectively accounting for lost baggage surpassing the Rs 25 lakh mark.
Senior Divisional Security Commissioner (RPF) Priyanka Sharma attributed the rise to passengers often hurrying to board or exit trains, leading to instances of them inadvertently leaving their belongings behind. The RPF promptly responds by patrolling stations, locating abandoned items, and making efforts to reconnect them with their owners. «We have established a helpline number for lost and found reports, and we take appropriate action.
