BBC Radio 2 head Helen Thomas is excited about the BBC Radio 2 in the Park event, which will be held in Leicester. Here's what she said.
«I really am excited,» Helen told Leicestershire Live. «The presenters are so excited about it because we just haven't had this opportunity. Traditionally what Radio 2 did was a one-day event in Hyde Park, so this feels like a school trip!
The event is for two days, with the „biggest and best names“, she added.
Helen wishes to get the presenters on a trip down The Golden Mile at Bobby's, a restaurant she visited as a child.
Helen reveals that she is half-Indian, and ate masala dosa at Bobby's.
BBC Radio 2 in the Park will be held from 10.30 am to 10 pm local time on Saturday, September 16, 2023, and until 9.30 pm on Sunday, September 17, 2023.
Helen said the radio channel's listeners „really valued the relationship they have with our presenters“ and that they see them as 'trusted friends».
That's why, the radio station will be holding its first station-wide event with 70,000 listeners.
«These things are planned ahead of time and it comes down to 'have we got the right facilities?' 'is there the right infrastructure?' These are all considerations our live events team look at in advance. The safety of the audience is paramount, and we want to be sure we can get them all in safely, we want them to have a great time while they are there and then we want them to be able to get home safely afterwards.»
Helen is most looking forward to the Kylie Minogue performance, which is the main one. «She's so warm and so funny and she's so excited about headlining this gig for us,» said Helen.
