Dior has replaced Bella Hadid due to her remarks on the latest Israel-Hamas conflict.
In a post on Instagram, the super-model lamented the loss of innocent lives while calling on her followers to pressure their leaders to protect civilians in Gaza.
Upon Dior's release of its new holiday campaign, which included advertisements featuring Israeli model May Tager, social media users attempted to draw a connection between the campaign and Gigi Hadid's earlier statement, insinuating, without any substantiated evidence, that Hadid had been abruptly removed from the promotion as a result of her stance.
«Dior has REPLACED Bella Hadid with an ISRAELI model in their latest campaign. This comes after Bella Hadid came out in support of Palestine,» said one post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
A hashtag advocating for a boycott of the brand quickly gained traction on the platform as well.
Gigi Hadid, whose father is Palestinian, has consistently expressed public criticism of the Israeli government and has been an advocate for Palestinians since she became a brand ambassador for Dior's makeup in 2016.
However, a person familiar with the situation, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, revealed that Hadid's contract with Dior came to an end in March 2022 and was not renewed. The individual refused to disclose the reason behind her departure, citing it as a business decision.
Furthermore, various models replaced Hadid for her roles with Dior, none of whom included May Tager, the person confirmed.
The assertion that Tager replaced Hadid abruptly in the holiday campaign does not align with the facts. Tager had already appeared in Dior's 2022 holiday marketing, alongside several other models.
