Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) were arrested for allegedly stealing passengers' belongings. One worker was accused of taking a gold bangle belonging to an IIM-Bangalore student, and the other was alleged to have stolen a wristwatch.
Both were subsequently released on bail.
The IIMB student, Sandhya, reported the loss of her gold bangle, weighing around 11 grams, at Terminal 2's departure gate no.5 on December 5. Based on her complaint, the police arrested Mohammed Azad, a staffer of Adityavani, which provides housekeeping services at the airport.
Sandhya explained that the bangle had slipped off her hand and was worth Rs 85,000.
Despite being found by a staffer, the bangle was mistakenly discarded. Adithyavani's manager offered compensation, but Sandhya insisted on filing a complaint, leading to the arrest of Azad.
“I realised I won’t get a single penny and insisted that police register an FIR.
Why would somebody throw a bangle in the dustbin, even if it isn’t a gold one ?” Sandhya said.
“The staffer should have handed over the bangle to the lost-and-found section,” added Sandhya.
In another case, Arasu, a security guard from Peregrine Guarding Pvt Ltd, was arrested for allegedly stealing a passenger's digital wristwatch worth Rs 1,200. He too was released on bail.
