Bengaluru bandh on September 26 (Tuesday) over Cauvery water dispute with Tamil Nadu, many tech companies in Bengaluru have asked employees to work from home on Tuesday, Reuters reported. The farmer organizations are demanding Karnataka state government to refrain from releasing more water from the Cauvery river to the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu.
Citing internal memo, Reuters reported that multinational firms such as Google, Walmart, IBM and Accenture have advised employees to work from home and avoid any non-essential commuting on Tuesday.
According to news reports, some private schools in Bengaluru have shifted Tuesday's classes online while many have private schools and colleges have already declared a holiday.
Tuesday's bandh in Bengaluru is likely to be widespread as many opposition parties have supported it. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also said on Monday his government would not curtail the protests but emphasised the importance of maintaining peace.
During the bandh, public transport is likely to be hit as the KSRTC Staff and Workers Federation and taxi unions in the city have declared their support for it.
Some airlines have already issued advisory to passengers. «Due to the Bangalore Bandh declared on 26th September'23, local transport facilities may be affected.
