software engineer accidentally fell to his death from the 33rd-floor balcony of his friend's flat at Bhattarahalli near KR Pura, east Bengaluru, on Friday morning. The deceased, identified as Divyanshu Sharma, had been partying late into the night before the incident occurred, a TOI report stated.
According to the police, Divyanshu had been partying with his friends until late in the night on the new year.
While attempting to throw cigarette ash from the balcony, he slipped and fell near the walking track of the apartment.
The incident took place in Monica's flat, owned by Divyanshu's friend. Preliminary investigation suggests that after returning from a movie and a visit to a pub, Divyanshu fell asleep in the living room while his friends slept in the bedroom.
Prior to retiring for the night, he had mentioned to Monica his intention to clean up the party area, which was littered with cigarette stubs and ash.
Early in the morning, around 7 am, Divyanshu walked to the balcony and tragically fell. The police speculate that he may have lost his balance due to a hangover.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to his fall.
The incident came to light when residents of the apartment noticed Divyanshu's body and immediately raised the alarm on the community's WhatsApp group. The message included a photo of Divyanshu's ID card, which caught Monica's attention.
She and other friends rushed downstairs only to find him deceased.
Upon further investigation, the police discovered cigarette ash on the balcony floor, near the railings. The presence of shoe marks on the ash indicated that the victim was attempting to dispose of it from the balcony.
