Bernie Marsden, the former guitarist of British hard rock band Whitesnake, died at the age of 72. Confirming the death of the legend, his friend and bassist Neil Murray said «Bernie died peacefully on Thursday evening with his wife, Fran, and daughters, Charlotte and Olivia, by his side.»
Paying tribute to the guitarist, Whitesnake founder David Coverdale posted on his social media account, “I’ve just woken up to the awful news that my old friend and former Snake Bernie Marsden has passed. My sincere thoughts and prayers to his beloved family, friends and fans. A genuinely funny, gifted man, whom I was honored to know and share a stage with.”
When Coverdale faced financial problems that forced him to clean house, Marsden left Whitesnake during the making of ‘Saints and Sinners’. He set up the band Alaska and reunited with ex-Whitesnake guitarist Micky Moody. Later, he re-established a relationship with Coverdale and featured him on a remake of Whitesnake’s ‘Trouble’ on his 2014 album ‘Shine’.
Bernard John Marsden was born in Buckinghamshire, England on May 7, 1951. He made his professional guitar gig debut with UFO in 1972. He also joined Glenn Cornick’s Wild Turkey, Cozy Powell’s band Cozy Powell’s Hammer, and Babe Ruth. He played on two releases: Stealin’ Home (1975) and Kid’s Stuff (1976) with Babe Ruth.
