Karnataka Police have allegedly arrested an individual, known by the username 'BhikuMahtre,' from Goa in connection with online activities allegedly aimed at inciting communal discord. The arrest follows accusations of disseminating a distorted statement attributed to the Karnataka Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, with the purported intent of stoking animosity between different communities. The arrest was confirmed by Amit Malviya.
Though the precise grounds for the arrest remain undisclosed, the First Information Report (FIR) doing round on social media indicates that it pertains to certain tweets concerning the Congress party's manifesto. Following his detention in Goa, BhikuMahtre was reportedly escorted by law enforcement to the Cyber Crime Cell at the Commissioner's Office in Bengaluru.
In his response, BhikuMhatre said that he would fight against what he perceived as unjust persecution. He expressed readiness to pursue legal recourse, including resorting to the highest judicial authorities, while maintaining his innocence regarding any allegedly inflammatory or communal content.
