The government, in a notification, said it has received representations from many Muslim organisations requesting not to let the movie release in the state as they said it would «create hatred between religions and castes.»
The ban is applicable for two weeks or till further order to all electronic media/ social media/ cinema theatres/ tv channels and other media, according to the government notification.
Hamare Barah, the latest directorial venture of Raanjhanaa-director Kamal Chandra, explores the themes of supposed over-population in the Muslim community, at the risk to women's health. Couched in feminist themes, the protagonist in the film is a Muslim man who pushes his wife to keep her pregnancy despite a health risk.
