BJP has decided to seek an explanation from its Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha member Ananthkumar Hegde for his public comments on changing the Constitution of India if the party was reelected with 400 seats in the Lok Sabha.
Hegde had reportedly made these comments at a party workers meeting at Siddapur in his constituency, saying the earlier Congress regimes made changes in the Constitution which hurt the interests of the Hindu community.
The BJP Karnataka unit issued a clarification saying Hegde's remarks were his personal views and do not reflect the party's stand. "@BJP4India reaffirms our unwavering commitment to uphold the nation's Constitution," the party posted on X.
Karnataka's IT/BT & Rural Development Minister Priyank Kharge urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP to clarify on the MP's «repetitive stand on changing the Constitution...The RSS/BJP and their supporters are allergic to social equity and equality,» he said in a post on X.
The ruling Congress attacked the BJP, saying the party had no right to exist and do politics in the country run under the Constitution.
«It is certain that the people of this state and the country will reject the BJP, which always incites against Dalits and against the Constitution,» the Congress Karnataka unit said.
