BJP has constituted an empowered group, comprising several Union ministers and party leaders, to manage the party's narrative ahead of the 2024 general elections and lay down the communication strategy on key issues, sources have said. The group, which came into existence over the last few months, has been formed to also counter the opposition's propaganda, they said.
This group includes Union Information and Broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur and BJP's national media in-charge Anil Baluni. Both Thakur and Baluni, who draft the communication plan on behalf of the government and the party respectively, are the group co-odinators, and will ensure that the approach and the communication strategy of both the government and the party are in sync, party leaders said.
The other leaders of this group include Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, his cabinet colleagues Smriti Irani, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Jitendra Singh, BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde, party vice-president Baijayant Panda and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, sources said. Leaders like Pradhan have been roped in for their expertise as he is seen as an ace election manager of the party with experience in managing around a dozen states, party leaders said.
Similarly, Prasad, is an old party hand when it comes to communication and is still seen as among the best to put forward BJP's views and attacking the opposition's arguments, they said. Irani, whose command over the language, articulation skills and her aggressive stance on the opposition, works in the BJP's favour while Chandrasekhar's tech savviness could come in handy in this era of social media, party leaders said.
