Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, has announced his plans to gift an XUV400 electric SUV to the parents of Indian chess prodigy R Praggnanandhaa.
Praggnanandhaa recently made headlines after becoming the youngest ever player to reach the finals of the FIDE World Cup. Following his remarkable performance, several users on X (formerly known as Twitter) asked Mahindra to gift a Thar SUV to the youngster.
However, Mahindra said that he would instead gift an XUV400 EV to Praggnanandhaa's parents, Shrimati Nagalakshmi and Shri Rameshbabu.
He said that he wanted to encourage parents to introduce their children to chess and support them as they pursue the cerebral game.
«It's an investment in a better future for our planet, just like EVs,» Mahindra said.
The XUV400 EV is an electric SUV that was launched in India earlier this year. It is available in two battery pack options — 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh, delivering a claimed range of 375 km and 476 km, respectively.
Mahindra's gesture has been widely appreciated by the chess community and the general public.
