As many as 14 people, including passengers and crew, lost their lives in a devastating plane crash that occurred in Barcelos, Brazil, on Saturday. The ill-fated aircraft, a Bandeirante model, was carrying a total of 12 tourists, accompanied by the pilot and co-pilot, as confirmed by Civil Defence authorities. Heartbreakingly, there were no survivors, as affirmed by the Civil Defence.
The crash unfolded during the plane’s attempt to land in Barcelos, a city situated approximately 400 km away from the state capital, Manaus, where its journey had originated. According to CNN Brasil, the incident transpired around 3:00 pm local time.
Inclement weather conditions in Brazil possibly played a pivotal role in the crash, as it was reported to be raining heavily at the time of the landing attempt.
The Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa) swiftly initiated an investigation, calling upon the expertise of investigators from the Seventh Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Seripa VII), a regional branch of Cenipa.
Initial steps involve specialized techniques for data collection and verification, evidence preservation, damage assessment, and the gathering of crucial information for the investigative process, as per CNN Brasil. The duration of the investigation will depend on the complexity of the incident and its contributing factors.
The ill-fated aircraft was registered under Manaus Taxi Aereo and held the necessary authorizations to perform air taxi services, according to the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac). Manaus Aerotáxi, the company operating the aircraft, issued a statement confirming the involvement of a PT-SOG plane in the accident.
