Britney Spears' memoir «The Woman in Me» has sold over 1.1 million copies within the US alone in its first week. According to a statement released by Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, Spears stated that she has poured her heart and soul into her memoir. She went on to say that she was grateful to her fans and readers around the world for their «unwavering support».
The sales figure also includes pre-orders, print sales, e-books and audiobooks. The memoir which was released on October 24th has received wide acclaim for Spears' compelling account of her rise to global fame and her ongoing struggles. Topics discussed in the book also include the 13 year conservatorship that she has been in since 2008 and got out of in November 2021.
During the course of the conservatorship, her father had sole control of everything in her life. Spears' also revealed that she had an abortion while she was dating Justin Timberlake over 20 years ago.
On the day of the books release, Spears had posted on Instagram that her book had become «the highest selling celebrity memoir in history».
However is it not true so far, it is not even the highest selling memoir of 2023.
«The Woman in Me», for which Spears' did very little publicity beyond Instagram, has been been the top seller of last week. But Prince Harry's memoir «Spare» has been the record-breaker, after it came out in January and sold over 1.6 million US copies in its first week.
The success of «The Woman in Me» has had a ripple effect on Britney Spears' music catalog. According to Luminate, a music and entertainment analytics company, her music streams and sales experienced a substantial boost. In just one day, from Monday to Tuesday, Spears' catalog witnessed an 18.2%
