‘Layover’, the solo debut album of BTS member Kim Taehyung has made history. It has sold over 2 million albums, thereby making V, the first Korean soloist in 23 years, with this distinction. He is also currently the best-selling soloist of all time on Hanteo.
Fans were ecstatic, celebrating the idol’s milestone. Several diehard V stans had a field day, gushing about this landmark achievement on X (formerly Twitter).
“Layover is now officially the first album by a soloist to sell over 2 million copies in its first week in Hanteo history! DOUBLE MILLION SELLER V CONGRATULATIONS TAEHYUNG,” wrote an overjoyed fan.
Another gushed, “It's insane that Taehyung is the first K-pop artist to have a DEBUT album with 2 million first-week sales!!”
The album released on September 8. Produced by Frankie Scoca, Jinsu Park and Freekind, the album contains songs that are a medley of jazz and R&B (widely known to be Taehyung’s favourite genres).
The album came with the cover image of the superstar’s pet dog Yeontan.
It has five songs, ‘Rainy Days’, ‘Blue’, ‘Love Me Again’, ‘Slow Dancing’ and ‘For Us’.
K-pop supergroup BTS is currently on a hiatus. All of the members of the Maknae Line — Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook have made successful solo debuts. Jimin and Jungkook’s solo singles, ‘Like Crazy’ and ‘Seven’ also reached the top position of the Billboard 100 chart, thereby making them the first Korean soloists with such a milestone.
