Indian Railways, which operates across 67,000 km and serves 2.3 cr passengers daily will once again be in focus on February 1 when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2025-26.
In fact, experts believe that by 2030, Indian Railways could achieve standards comparable to leading global rail networks, provided the current pace of development and investment continues.
The central government had allocated a record Capex of Rs 2,62,200 cr for railways in the previous budget. The overall Railways’ capital outlay has been on an increasing trend over the years reaching Rs 2.65 lakh cr in FY2025 Budget estimates, reporting a modest increase of 2 per cent over Rs 2.60 lakh cr in FY2024 Revised Estimates.
