Congress MP Kumari Selja, who opened the Lok Sabha debate on the budget, questioned the viability of the proposed employment-linked incentives to private sector employees. «Did the government hold any pre-budget discussions with the industry and corporates and did you have any assurance that they (firms) will indeed recruit more employees based on this proposal? What is the guarantee that those companies, who may give some jobs as per this proposal, will not lay off the same employees after the specified period of government incentives,» Selja asked, with the finance minister present in the House.
