Canada Elections 2025 on April 28: Who will win and take on Donald Trump; Mark Carney or Pierre Poilievre? Here's what the latest poll says
Mark Carney and Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, as per reports. A new poll finds who might win to tackle issues the country is facing with the US president Donald Trump.
A Close Race Between Liberals and Conservatives
The latest Abacus Data poll, conducted between March 17 and March 20, showed that the Conservatives are holding a narrow 39% lead across the country, only three points ahead of the Liberals at 36%, with the NDP lagging at 12%, as per the report.
Although this might appear to be a comfortable lead for the Conservatives, the trends beneath the surface are different, as per the Abacus Data report. The Liberals have gained considerably in crucial provinces such as Ontario and British Columbia, while holding firm in Quebec and Atlantic Canada, according to the report. The NDP, however, is struggling, with Jagmeet Singh’s approval rating at its lowest since he became leader, the report added.
Donald Trump's Influence on Voter Sentiment
Canadians are interested in the upcoming elections, with 72% of respondents saying they are “very interested”, which is higher than the same period in 2021, as per the report.
The interest is driven because of Trump as 77% have a negative impression of him. According to the Abacus poll, Liberals consider Trump to be the most important issue affecting their vote, leading by almost 30 points, while a 20-point Conservative lead among those who consider the cost of living to be a more important issue. The data indicates that voters outraged or alarmed by Trump lean heavily Liberal, while those who see inflation and affordability as top-of-mind lean Conservative, reported Abacus Data report.
