The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the owner of a private school in Godhra, Gujarat, on Sunday in connection with alleged malpractices in the NEET-UG exam.
Dixit Patel, the owner of Jay Jalaram School located near Godhra in the Panchmahal district, was apprehended at his residence in the early hours, according to public prosecutor Rakesh Thakor. Patel is now being taken to Ahmedabad by the CBI to secure his remand.
“As the Gujarat government has handed over the case to the CBI, a CBI team will present Dixit Patel before a designated court in Ahmedabad to obtain his remand,” Thakor said.
Jay Jalaram School was one of the designated centers for the NEET-UG exam held on May 5.
Patel is the sixth person arrested in this case, where the accused allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from candidates to help them clear the test.
Earlier, on June 5, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) arrested Ashwani Ranjan, Vikki Kumar, and Aniket, all residents of Bihar and alleged members of the interstate Sanjeev Mukhiya gang, who are currently in judicial custody.
Several members of the Mukhiya gang have already been arrested by Bihar Police in connection with the NEET (UG) and Bihar Public Service Commission’s (BPSC) Teachers Recruitment Exam (TRE) paper leak cases. The EOU has so far registered a total of 74 FIRs across various districts and arrested over 150 people in various question paper leak cases.
