High Court has issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding a petition filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest. The court has directed the CBI to submit a response within seven days and allowed two days for a rejoinder.
The matter is scheduled for a hearing on July 17, 2024.
Kejriwal filed his plea on Monday challenging his recent arrest by the CBI in the Excise Policy case, alleging that the agency's actions were driven by malice.
Kejriwal argued that the CBI's arrest lacked proper justification or reasoning, especially given that the investigation has been ongoing for two years. In his plea, Kejriwal contended that his arrest was unlawfully based on material the CBI possessed before June 4, asserting that arrests should not be made on previously available evidence as it involves an impermissible re-evaluation.
He emphasized that the CBI has not presented any new evidence obtained post-June 4 to substantiate their actions. Kejriwal further argued that basing the arrest solely on his responses during the investigation is not a valid legal ground.
On June 26, the vacation judge of the trial court ordered Arvind Kejriwal to be placed in CBI custody for a three-day remand.
Arvind Kejriwal himself addressed the court and said, «CBI is claiming that I have made a statement against Manish Sisodia, which is completely false. Manish Sisodia Nirdosh hai, Aam Aadmi Party Nirdosh hai. main bhi nirdosh hun. Iss Tarah ke statements hamme media me badnam Karne ke liye
