New Delhi: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) chairman Sanjay Agarwal Tuesday have asked field formations to dispose of legacy cases in which there is no dispute.
According to the official data cases with tax demand of about Rs 29,000 crore are stuck, some of which are over 10 years.
In most of the cases demand was raised but because of missing assesses, inadequate assets and liquidation of assets recovery is not possible.
«Now, it is an opportune moment to clean the slate and resolve these long standing issues in an expeditious manner,» Agarwal said on Tuesday.
«I expect the zones to diligently address the pendency at their end,» he said.
The parliamentary standing committee on finance, which is chaired by a prominent BJP member named Jayant Sinha, called attention to the problem of tax arrears in both direct and indirect tax matters and recommended that administrative and legislative measures be taken to reduce the backlog.- Our Bureau
