Celebrity chef Kunal Kapur was recently granted a divorce from his wife Ekta by the Delhi High Court, on the grounds of ‘cruelty’. The court also stated that Kapur’s former wife’s attitude toward him was “devoid of dignity and human empathy”. The jury also observed that his former spouse had made “wild allegations” against him with the intention of sullying his reputation.
While granting the divorce, the jury, which consisted of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Neena Bansal Krishna stated, “In the light of the afore-noted facts of the present case, we find that conduct of the respondent (wife) towards appellant (Kapur) has been such that it is devoid of dignity and empathy towards him. When such is the nature of one spouse towards the other, it brings disgrace to the very essence of marriage and there exists no possible reason as to why he should be compelled to live while enduring the agony of living together..”
Kapur had alleged that his wife would often threaten to hamper his reputation on social media and often created public spectacle to embarrass him. While he was shooting for ‘Masterchef’ in 2016, she had allegedly arrived at the sets and created a ruckus. He had initiated a restraining order against her after this stunt.
On the other hand, Ekta, Kapur’s former wife accused him of infidelity and emotional abuse. She also stated that she had to compromise on her career for her husband and family. Her in-laws were displeased about her having a job and had often
