Chhattisgarh claims nearly Rs 5,000 crore loss in liquor case
The state government counsel made a statement to this effect to a Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Abhay Oka on Friday.
The case is being probed by Chhattisgarh's Economic offences Wing (EOW) as well as Enforcement Directorate (ED). The development took place during the hearing of a bail plea filed by retired IAS officer Anil Tuteja, a co-accused in the case, and Arun Pati Tripathi, the then special secretary of the Chhattisgarh excise department.
Taking stock of the fact that the investigation of the Chhattisgarh Police is still incomplete, the bench ordered that Tripathi be released on bail on April 10.
The bench recorded that Tripathi has been in custody for 11 months. «There is no possibility of a trial commencing in near future. Further time is required for investigation. However, to ensure that investigation is not hampered in any manner, we direct that he be enlarged on bail on April 10 subject to conditions by trial court,» the bench ordered.
