Chicken, corn, and cotton: China slaps 15% tariff on US goods from March 10
A Trade War Reignited
Just after midnight on Tuesday, the U.S. implemented sweeping tariffs on imports from China, Canada, and Mexico. These new levies push U.S. tariffs to historic levels, unsettling businesses and foreign governments alike. As of 12:01 a.m., the Trump administration imposed a 25% tariff on all imports from Canada and Mexico, while increasing tariffs on Chinese goods by an additional 10%, on top of existing duties.
The White House framed these measures as part of its broader strategy to reshape America’s trade relationships. “What they have to do is build their car plants, frankly, and other things in the United States, in which case they have no tariffs,” President Trump said. However, experts caution that such a drastic move could disrupt global supply chains and raise costs for American consumers.
