Animation Is Film festival has revealed its 2023 award recipients, with "Chicken for Linda!" helmed by Chiara Malta and Sébastien Laudenbach taking home the prestigious grand prize along with the audience award. The acclaimed film «Robot Dreams» directed by Pablo Berger secured the special jury prize.
Among the short films, "Letter to a Pig" by Tal Kantor won the grand prize, while «Wild Summon» directed by Karni Arieli and Saul Freed received the special jury prize.
The competitive feature film lineup included compelling works such as «Art College 1994,» «The Concierge,» «Mars Express,» «Phoenix: Reminiscence of Flower,» «Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds and the Summer,» and of course, the remarkable entries «Chicken for Linda!» and «Robot Dreams.» Notably, the festival featured the out-of-competition screenings of «The Boy and the Heron» and «Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.»
The narrative of «Chicken for Linda!» revolves around Paulette, a devoted mother, who endeavors to prepare a special chicken and pepper dish for her daughter, Linda. In the context of a tumultuous environment, Paulette's unwavering dedication to her daughter amid challenging circumstances forms the heart of the film.
On the other hand, «Robot Dreams,» adapted from Sara Varon's graphic novel, offers a glimpse into the captivating adventures of Dog and Robot in 1980s New York City, blending humor and pathos in a dialogue-free narrative.
Highlighting the distinctive artistic styles and poignant storytelling, the jury commended the films for their poignant depiction of human emotions and experiences.
