Chinese hackers stole mobile data of over 1 Million Americans, including Homeland Security Adviser; targeted Trump too
US officials told the ABC that Chinese hackers have exploited weaknesses in the communications networks of the nation's top telecommunications companies.
The FBI and Homeland Security acknowledged the breach, stating China stole a “large amount of data.”
The hackers initially focused on users in the national capital region before targeting specific high-profile individuals, including a cabinet secretary and a White House Homeland Security Adviser, the report claimed. Previous reports also indicated former President-elect Donald Trump, former Vice President-elect JD Vance, Senator Chuck Schumer's staff, and a Trump defense attorney were among those targeted.
«The Chinese hackers were then able to narrow their focus and zero in on the specific communications of a smaller number of important, high profile Americans and, in some cases, China was able to obtain audio calls from that smaller group of victims and review their text messages,» the ABC News report claimed.
