Gayle, popularly known as 'Universe Boss', will play for the West Indies Masters, while South African pace legend Makhaya Ntini and England’s spinner Monty Panesar will represent their respective nations.
The first season of IML, featuring legends from across the globe, is set to take place from February 22 to March 16. The tournament will be hosted at Navi Mumbai, Rajkot, and Raipur.
Gayle was one of the pioneers of T20 power hitting and had the ability to clear boundaries at will. The opener, who retired from international cricket in 2023 and last featured for West indies in 2021, was excited to play. “It’s always exciting to get back on the field and entertain fans. The IML is a fantastic platform to relive those big moments and share the stage with some of the best in the game. I’m ready to bring the Universe Boss energy to this league,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ntini, known for his relentless energy and ability to rattle batting line-ups, said, “I am proud to represent South Africa Masters in season one of the International Masters League, a tournament in which the masters of the sport are reuniting. I can assure you that this reunion is going to be memorable. The cricket we produce will be hard, unrelenting, and breathtaking. Cricket fans are in for a treat.”
