The Met Office says that Christmas Eve this year has been the warmest since 1997 and predicts this day to be the hottest recorded Christmas Day, shattering the dreams of many for experiencing a White Christmas also.
According to the weather agency, certain parts of the UK are forecasted to be hitting 14C this year. The daily minimum temperature recorded for the time being on Christmas Day has been the highest on record.
The Met Office said that the temperatures recorded at East Malling in Kent and at Exeter Airport have not come down under 12.4C.
The majority of the country will be remaining gentle and overcast with light showers, leading to a brown Christmas. The mountains in northern Scotland could witness snowfall though. Temperatures are not predicted to surpass the record of the warmest Christmas with 15.6C in the year 1920.
Dan Stroud, a forecaster at the Met Office said this Christmas can be the hottest Christmas day since the year 2016 when it was 15.1C in the UK.
The weather agency informed on Sunday of temperatures reaching 15.3C at Heathrow in West London.
The hottest Christmas Eve recorded was in the year 1931, when Banff and Aberdeen in Scotland recorded 15.5C.
Liam Eslick, a forecaster at Met Office said that it has been extraordinarily mild weather in the past few days across the UK. All through the year, temperatures have been far above average.
The maximum temperature recorded for December was 7C.
