Cliff Richard, the acclaimed British musician, in his latest book, a memoir titled “A Head Full of Music,” recalled the time when he first heard the music of late American music legend Elvis Presley and how it inspired him.
In a reported excerpt from the book, Richard, in May 1965, along with his two friends named Norman Mitham and Terry Smart first heard the lyrics of Presley’s famous song “Heartbreak Hotel” from the car radio of a parked automobile in Hertfordshire, England. They didn’t know which song it was and neither they were aware of Presley at the time.
As per the memoir, Richard described that moment by saying that they had never heard anything like that before, and that he talked about that song with Mitham and Smart throughout the afternoon. Richard wrote in his memoir that Mitham heard the song again at school and he informed Richard that the name of the song was “Heartbreak Hotel” and the artist was Presely.
Richard added in his memoir that Presley sounded like he was signing for him, to Richard himself. He termed Presley as “different” and that he sounded “cool,” “young,” and “passionate.”
