Coco 2 confirmed: Pixar is revisiting the land of the dead—What we know so far?
Bob Iger has officially announced that a sequel to the 2017 animated masterpiece Coco is in the works. The revelation came during a shareholder meeting, where Iger assured fans that, while the project is still in its early stages, it will deliver the same magic as its predecessor.
“While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humour, heart, and adventure, and we can’t wait to share more soon,” Iger said.
However, the release date remains uncertain. Pixar initially posted on social media that Coco 2 would hit cinemas in 2029, only to later remove the mention of a specific year. A Disney press release also omitted any timeframe, leaving fans to speculate when they can expect Miguel and his ancestors to return to the big screen.
A Legacy of Music and Family
The original Coco was more than just another Pixar film—it was a cultural phenomenon. The story followed 12-year-old Miguel, a boy with a deep love for music despite his family’s long-standing ban on it. On Día de los Muertos, he embarks on a journey to the Land of the Dead, uncovering long-buried family secrets along the way.

Directed by Lee Unkrich and co-directed by Adrian Molina, the film was praised for its heartfelt storytelling, stunning visuals, and respectful portrayal of Mexican culture. It raked in over $800 million worldwide and won two Academy Awards: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for the emotionally charged Remember Me.
The voice cast included Anthony Gonzalez as Miguel, with Gael García Bernal and Edward James Olmos in supporting roles. While Pixar has yet to confirm which actors will return for the sequel, it is expected that the original creative team will reunite to bring Coco 2 to life.
