Srinagar: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Monday said the manifesto of Congress was to strengthen the country and keep it secular and those thinking otherwise were already dividing the nation.
Reacting to PM Modi's remarks that the «Congress manifesto is a Muslim League manifesto aimed to break the country», Abdullah told media persons, «I don't think the (Congress) manifesto is to break the country. I think the manifesto is to make the country strong and keep it secular, that is what it is. If anybody thinks otherwise, they are already dividing the nation in their own ways.»
The National Conference has formed an alliance with Congress, also its INDIA bloc partner, for J&K and Ladakh ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
While the party is set to contest all three Lok Sabha seats in Kashmir, it has formally announced its candidate only for Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency. Farooq Abdullah is not fighting the Lok Sabha election but his son and party vice president Omar Abdullah is likely to join the electoral fray from Srinagar constituency. The National Conference is considering the names of Choudhary Ramzan and Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, among other party leaders, for the Baramulla constituency, according to people in the know.
