The party had been anticipated to secure between 5 to 60 seats in the 2024 general election. Due to its alliance commitments with other parties in the INDIA bloc, the Congress party fielded candidates in fewer than 400 seats for the first time. This move marked an improvement in the party's national performance following the setbacks in the 2014 and 2019 general elections, where they secured only 44 and 52 seats respectively, falling short of the 10% threshold required to claim the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
In Karnataka, the Congress party was leading in ten seats, defying pollsters' projections of just 3 to 4 wins. Meanwhile, in Kerala, they were leading in an impressive 12 seats.
