Street Talk understands Credit Suisse’s head of Australia securities research, Paul Buys, has signed with Canaccord Genuity and is due to start at the mid-cap broker in early November. He would take on the role of Canaccord’s Australian head of research.
Buys spent more than 12 years at the now-collapsed investment bank, and had led the equity research team for the past six after taking over from Adnan Kucukalic. He joined in 2012 as a director in the Swiss bank’s small-cap research team and was well known among fund managers.
Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Buys held research roles at the Royal Bank of Scotland and South African financial services group Nedbank.
Also joining Canaccord Genuity is Credit Suisse’s head of emerging companies research Andrew Hodge.
Hodge is an industrials analyst, with both buy-side and sell-side experience. He spent the late 2010s managing money for a family office, after capping off a six-year stint as head of industrials research at RBS/CIMB, where he covered engineering and construction companies, steel and mining services, and small industrials.
Hodge’s 25-year career also includes stints at QIC, Colonial First State and Macquarie Equities.
“We are excited to have Paul and Andrew join us next month. We believe they will incrementally strengthen our institutional relationships and industrial research coverage,” Canaccord Genuity’s chief executive officer for Asia Pacific, Marcus Freeman, told staff on Thursday afternoon.
