Chennai airport on Monday announced that it has shut its operations till 11 pm ahead of Cyclone Michaung that is expected to make landfall in the next 24 hours, causing torrential rains.
"Airfield closed for arrival and departure operations till 2300 hrs IST today due to severe weather conditions," said Chennai airport on social media platform X.
33 flights have been diverted from Chennai to Bengaluru at the airport due to heavy rain and strong wind since midnight.
The heavy rain has led to severe waterlogging across the city and other parts of the state.
