The cable car system will operate during fixed hours from morning to night, with each car accommodating about 50 passengers. The installation sites will be chosen near metro stations on both sides of the Yamuna to ensure accessibility while avoiding encroachment or concretisation of the floodplain, according to the LG’s office.
“This is a New Year gift to the residents of Delhi,” the LG’s office stated.
During a recent meeting, Saxena emphasized the importance of exploring non-polluting public transport to address the city’s growing pollution levels. Officials said the LG instructed the DDA to ensure selected sites are within walking distance of metro stations and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus stops.
“Apart from ensuring the use of public transport that does not cause vehicular emissions, the cable cars will also encourage people to walk even during their busy daily hectic schedules,” an official noted.
