Announcing the scheme here along with Delhi Congress leaders, Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar said the promised scheme is fashioned on the lines of his state government's 'Gruhalakshmi' scheme — which meant every woman head of a family will be the beneficiary.
«I have come here to launch the 'Pyari Didi Yojana'. We are confident that a Congress government will be formed in Delhi, and on the first day of the new cabinet, we will implement the scheme to provide ₹2,500 to every woman in the capital,» Shivakumar said at a press conference.
The promise by the Delhi Congress, which failed to open its account in the last two assembly polls in Delhi, came close on the heels of the AAP government promising Rs 2,100 monthly under the 'Mahila Samman Yojana' for Delhi women, if the party retains power.
While the Delhi Congress has promised one scheme for now, it is widely expected that the party will come out with more promises of freebies, mostly on the lines of the «Karnataka guarantees», and it may include a monthly dole for youth, free travel for women in state-owned buses, free power and food grains to specified measurers.
