Deep depression over Bay of Bengal. IMD issues heavy rainfall warning for Odisha and West Bengal

Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast by the morning of 16th November. As a result of the low pressure area, heavy to very heavy rainfall was observed at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. And the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal are likely to rains on 16th & 17th November.

«Chennai is drenched with a whopping 19 cm of rain! Other places like Velankanni received 12cm, Kodiayakarai 11cm, Karaikal 11cm and Ambathur recorded 9cm of rain,» the IMD tweeted.

Location of Cyclone

The depression, according to the weather department, was currently centred about 510 km southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 650 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha) and 790 km south of Digha (West Bengal). And it is likely to initially northwestwards, then north-northwestwards and intensify into a Deep Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast in the morning of 16th November, the weather department said.
And, thereafter, it is expected to move north-northeastwards and reach over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast
on 17th morning and off North Odisha-West Bengal coasts on 18th November morning.

Rainfall warning

The IMD said that light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is likely over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and coastal Andhra Pradesh on 15th November. Rainfall is also likely over coastal Odisha and West Bengal on 15th November. And on November 16th and 17th moderate to heavy rainfall is likely over coastal Odisha & West Bengal.
