Delhi government has announced a complete ban on all types of firecrackers until January 1, 2024, in an effort to curb air pollution. This ban includes the production, sale, and use of all firecrackers, including green ones, in the capital. The announcement came from Gopal Rai, the state environment minister, who highlighted that air pollution spikes in Delhi during winter and fireworks add to the problem.

Rai stated, «Like last year, we are imposing a complete ban on the production, storage, sale, and use of all types of firecrackers. The online delivery or sale of any kind of firecrackers is also completely banned.»
The enforcement of this ban will involve Delhi Police, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, and the revenue department, who will create a joint plan to ensure compliance.
Addressing concerns of firecracker traders, Rai mentioned that the goal was to avoid a last-minute ban, which could cause inconvenience. He encouraged citizens to act as «pollution warriors» by celebrating festivals with diyas (lamps) and sweets instead of fireworks.
This ban is part of a 21-point Winter Action Plan aimed at combating air pollution during the cold months.
