Delhi around the G20 Heads of State and Government Summit that will take place in the city next month. Rooms in top luxury hotels have been booked by delegations and, considering the demand, rates in some hotels for the event dates are already averaging ₹40,000 a night, people familiar with the matter said. Taking place on September 9 and 10, the 18th G20 summit in New Delhi will be the culmination of all the G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year.
«Predominantly, the government bookings are in the five-star, luxury hotels category, but we are expecting a sold-out situation in the city on those dates as we foresee a fair amount of spill-over demand coming to other hotels as well due to media crew and other support functions requiring accommodation,» said Vikramjit Singh, president of Lemon Tree Hotels. «We are expecting Delhi to be sold out for those dates,» he added. The Taj Mahal, New Delhi is full for the summit dates, and the business is a combination of government and business delegations, a spokesperson said.The Leela Palace in the capital is also sold out for the dates, a spokesperson said.Room rates shoot upITC Maurya does not have rooms available on September 9-10 on online booking platforms, while Shangri-La Eros is sold out for September 9.
Davinder Juj, general manager at Eros Hotel in Nehru Place, said rates for some hotels are up four times for next month due to the summit compared to a usual September. «We are one of the hotels that has been approved by the ministry of external affairs for the delegations. They have made a list of hotels to be circulated for embassies.
