Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, is embarking on a fundraising drive across the country as it aims to finally kick-start construction of the mosque complex next year.
Meanwhile, the design of the mosque has been changed as per demands from the Muslim community to make it look more ancient Islamic than contemporary as had been originally envisaged by the trust. It has been more than three years since, following the Supreme Court verdict in the Ramjanmabhoomi dispute, a five-acre land was allotted in Dhannipur for construction of a mosque.
The trust formed to build the mosque complex had come up with a plan to build a mosque, a hospital, a community kitchen as well as an Indo-Islamic Cultural Research Centre. However, lack of funds and administrative delays prevented the construction.
A start for the fund mobilisation drive was made from Mumbai on Thursday, when the new design and name were revealed at an event.
