Diablo 4's upcoming holiday event started before BlizzCon 2023's opening ceremony, hinting at a winter-themed event in the game. Blizzard officially announced the event during the ceremony, promising limited-time content set to launch in mid-December.
The Midwinter Blight event will begin on Tuesday, December 12, and will run for three weeks. However, specific start and end times have not been disclosed.
During the BlizzCon Campfire Chat, more information about the event was shared, including its main details.
Midwinter Blight will primarily occur in Fractured Peaks, starting in Kyovashad, where a bard warns travelers about an impending storm. Kyovashad will have a dedicated space for the event, featuring a central «totem of Midwinter» that plays a crucial role in the festivities.
Players will then venture into Fractured Peaks, where eternal darkness and an intense freeze have driven out the residents. The area will be infested with enemies called Frigid Husks and Blight Fiends, causing trouble for both locals and players due to a sinister new villain, the Red-Cloaked Horror.
The Red-Cloaked Horror, a goat-like figure in red, only appears during the storm and will eliminate anyone who interferes with his mysterious plans. Throughout Midwinter Blight, players will engage in various events with the primary objective of defeating the Blight Fiends. Successful completion of these tasks will yield resources that can be used to advance the event in Hibernal Square.
One of the main attractions of the event is the new cosmetic rewards, which include new weapons and back trophies adorned with bells, wreaths, and other festive elements.
