US President Donald Trump has already reignited his interest in acquiring Greenland while claiming that the US will eventually secure the mineral rich island for sure, reported Daily Star.
According to Daily Star, following an extremely tense phone call with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during which US President Donald Trump have already threatened trade tariffs, he also expressed confidence that the residents of Greenland actually want to join the US. However, during such times also, Mette Frederiksen has firmly stated that Greenland is not at all for sale while putting an emphasis on the fact that any decision regarding its future actually lies with its people.
Now complicating matters a bit more, recent reports revealed that Britain has a historical ‘right-to-buy’ clause dating back to the year 1917 which actually gives it the first opportunity to purchase Greenland if Denmark someday decides to sell, asserted Daily Star. This clause gradually stems from a previous failed attempt by the US to buy the island while former Danish officials have reiterated that any sort of sale would require the British approval.
