Tickoo recounted the incident in a LinkedIn post, terming the landlord’s behavior “modern-day exploitation.” He emphasized the plight of “non-natives” who move to Bengaluru to chase their dreams, only to encounter such exploitation in their pursuit of a better future.
Sharing details, Tickoo wrote: “This couple rented a 2BHK apartment in a high-end society for Rs 55,000 a month. Despite paying their rent on time, they faced recurring issues like leakage and other property defects. Whenever they tried to reach the landlord for help, their calls went unanswered. Instead, the landlord redirected them to the maintenance team with a blunt message: ‘It’s your problem to fix.’”
With no assistance forthcoming, the couple was forced to address the issues themselves, shelling out over Rs 1 lakh from their own pockets. The stress didn’t end there. When they decided to vacate the apartment, the landlord refused to refund their security deposit, citing “flat maintenance” as the reason. According to Tickoo, the landlord merely sent a brief text message stating, “The flat requires maintenance, so you shouldn’t get anything back.”
Even when the couple proposed a compromise—deducting one month’s rent and refunding the remaining amount—the landlord outright rejected their
