first-day earnings of ‘Dunki’, the much-awaited Shah Rukh Khan-starrer have been unexpectedly modest.
According to a report by the Indian box-office tracking portalSacnilk.com, the Rajkumar Hirani directorial collected about Rs 30 crore on its opening day.
Although many cities in North India showed a lukewarm response to the movie, ‘Dunki’ performed well in the city of Hyderabad. Additionally, the film was met with an enthusiastic response in regions such as Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and West Bengal.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Box Office Worldwide shared the first-day collections of the movie (Rs 31-33 crore) and called it a “fantastic” figure for a social comedy-drama genre.
“#Dunki is taking a solid opening of 31.5-33 cr on day 1, which is FANTASTIC for this social drama genre and given a mid-week release! There are reports of phenomenal audience response from cinemas, like all Hirani films this one is also going to trend strongly from here,” reads the post.
‘Dunki’s lukewarm first-day collections (in comparison to SRK’s previous releases ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’, led detractors to troll the superstar and Hirani on X. The words “SRK’s Disaster Donkey’ trended on the microblogging platform.
