Early trends shows Congress, INDIA allies’ tactics to tap incumbency issues making headways
Congress and the INDIA bloc allies, defying all the exit poll projections that had shown them far below the BJP-led NDA. The latest trends – with many more rounds of counting still to go – has put the INDIA bloc above 200 mark and the Congress itself hovering around 90 to 100 range, clearly some of the Opposition pre-poll moves seems to have worked for these parties even though BJP-led NDA is still ahead of the Opposition.

Clearly, the INDIA alliance seems to have tapped rather effectively the accumulated incumbency burdens of the 10 years’ Modi government. And the Congress, being the main national Opposition party, appears to have gained most, at least as of now even though its is yet too early to reach a final conclusion as many more rounds of counting are still awaited
Yet, going by the trend at this time, the decision of over a dozen major political parties to come together along with some smaller parties to form the Opposition alliance – INDIA bloc – has clearly helped them to pool and unite the anti-BJ/NDA votes. Now the task of these parties would be to maintain, and further build on, the current trend to try and pin the BJP down the majority mark and keep the number games open. That of course also depends on how the BJP and allies, who are currently performing way below the exit poll projections, would be doing in the coming rounds of polling.
