Election Commission today warned against the use of muscle power in the upcoming general elections.
«We will be ruthless if violence takes place anywhere during polls,» Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said in a press conference.
«The daunting challenges in conducting free and fair elections are four-fold, the 4Ms: muscle, money, misinformation, and MCC violations,» the CEC said.
«ECI is committed and has put in place measures to deal with these disruptive challenges.»

He said that the commission won't allow a bloodbath in the elections.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Kumar said that peace is everlasting while violence solves nothing.
While underscoring the fact that some states have issues of muscle power while others have issues of money power, and some have geographical issues.
«We will not allow the misuse of money power,» he said. The CEC revealed that money seizures rose by 835% to Rs 3,400 crore in last 11 state polls during 2022-23.
Rajiv Kumar said that the commission is coordinating with various agencies like the Coast Guard, GST, and Police to stop the misuse of money in the form of freebies like liquor and others."

On fake news, the CEC said, «Tackling misinformation in today's digital age is complex. We have put certain measures in place to ensure misinformation is nipped in the bud. We're proactive in debunking fake news. Originators of fake news to be dealt with severely as per extant laws.»
