West Bengal's crucial constituencies, are set to witness a triangular contest as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have announced their candidates.
The polling for the South Malda constituency is slated for May 7 under the second phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024. The elections for 543 Lok Sabha seats are scheduled from April 19 to June 1 under seven phases across the country.
The result for the all the Lok Sabha seats will be announced on June 4
Trinamool Congress has nominated Shanawaz Ali Rehan as its candidate, while the BJP has put forward Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury once again. However, the Congress is yet to reveal its contender for the seat. The South Malda Lok Sabha constituency comprises seven assembly segments, namely Manikcha, English Bazar, Mothabar, Sujapur, Baishnab Nagar, Farakka, and Samserganj.
The incumbent MP from South Malda, Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury (Dalu) of the Congress, has been holding the seat since 2009, albeit with a shrinking vote margin over the years.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury (Dalu) garnered 444,270 votes, closely followed by BJP's Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury with 436,048 votes. TMC's Md. Moazzem Hossain secured the third position
