Elon Musk pitches X directly against WhatsApp, Instagram with new audio & video calling features, says 'no phone number needed'

These upcoming features will work on iOS, Android, Mac and PCs, Musk stated. He clarified that no phone numbers would be needed to access the features.
Taking to X, he wrote, «Video & audio calls coming to X. Works on iOS, Android, Mac & PC. No phone number needed. X is the effective global address book.»
The new Twitter feature has been teased several times in the past, and it is now likely to finally make its debut in an upcoming update.

CEO Linda Yaccarino also confirmed these upcoming features in an interview with CNBC. She said that these features are intended to «enhance communication on the platform» and «provide users with more ways to connect with each other.»
